Keep the Commandments

“God’s commandments are not given to frustrate or to become obstacles to our happiness.  Just the opposite is true.  He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just what we need and when we need it. In order to obtain the harsh happiness possible.  He has provided  us with guidelines which, if we follow them, will see us through this treacherous mortal journey.”

President Thomas S. Monson, October 2015 Priesthood Session.

Be Thou An Example

I, like many others, was inspired by this latest LDS General Conference. It was wonderful to hear so many inspiring messages.  In the Sunday afternoon session brother Devin Durant of the Sunday School Presidency started somewhat of a movement with his talk about ponderizing. The basic idea is to reflect on a scripture for a week.  To think about it,  memorize it,  and ponder hire to apply it to your life.

I have done this type of focused study before and really enjoy it so I decided to start again.

For this week I selected the scripture shared by President Thomas S. Monson:

1 Timothy 4:12

12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

We have been studying charity as a family lately and this scripture contains wonderful counsel on what being charitable actually means.  It’s more than just being nice.  As President Monson said it includes our language, how we see and treat others, and the strength of our faith and commitment to the gospel.

I have always loved Paul’s writings so this will be a good way to begin my focused study or ponderizing.
